$2M water proposal meeting in Clovis cancelled

CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – City commissioners in Clovis were set to consider a nearly $2 million water proposal Thursday but have called the meeting off.

The proposal calls for buying water rights from more than 900 acres from an eastern New Mexico farming family to ensure supplies for cannon air force base.

The aquifer Clovis and the base depends on has been drying up for many years and the proposed water rights would help out.

City officials didn’t say why Thursday’s special meeting was cancelled but did say it would be rescheduled.
