ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque woman is facing child abuse charges after police say she threw her 6-week-old baby on the floor seriously injuring her.

Police say 23-year-old Rachael Padilla claimed she accidentally hit the baby’s head against the bassinet but doctors say her injuries were too severe.

They say she had a skull fracture and a brain bleed.

Padilla later admitted to police that she threw the baby because she was stressed out.

She also said she lied because she did not want CYFD to take her child away because of her past involvement with the agency.
