Windows smashed, tires slashed at train station

SANTA FE (KRQE) – Police are looking for whoever did a number on cars at a Rail Runner station in Santa Fe.

At around 6:45 a.m., someone found at least 20 damaged cars in the parking lot of the 599 station.

Some drivers had their windows smashed out and others had tires slashed. Six car batteries were stolen, too.

Police say they’re trying to figure out how the vandals got under the hoods of the cars and they’re working with Rail Runner officials to see if surveillance video captured the incident.

Deborah Winbush had her tires slashed.

“I just started riding the train, so it’s just kind of – I don’t know. I don’t know if I’ll ride it again,” she said.

Police think some drivers may have left the area and not noticed their cars were vandalized.

They’re asking anyone with damage to come forward so they can build a stronger case against the vandals.

Police say they’ll now be monitoring the station more closely.

In the past, cars have been vandalized at Rail Runner stations in Albuquerque.
