Town residents to weigh in on Taos park name

TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – The Taos Town Council wants to hear from residents before it makes a final decision on the controversial renaming of Kit Carson Park.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the name change is being put on the Taos Town Council agenda for July 8 to allow more residents to weigh in.

Earlier this month, the council passed a resolution for the new name Red Willow Park.

Many people are against the park’s current name because of the way Carson treated Native Americans. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
