Lawrence Sherer was sentenced to seven and half years in prison for the death of Roger Alderman

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man who turned himself in after being on the run for more than two decades has been sentenced for murder.

Wednesday a judge sentenced Lawrence Sherer to seven and half years in prison for the death of Roger Alderman.

Alderman’s family found him dead in his home near Central and Juan Tabo back in 1991.

The case had gone cold for more than 20 years until Sherer made that call.

Scherer told police he wanted to confess because the crime was weighing on his conscience.

Investigators say Scherer told police Alderman made sexual advances on him, so he stabbed him to death.
