1 dead in multi-vehicle crash

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Investigators in Rio Rancho were busy Sunday investigating a multiple-car crash that killed one person and injured others.

It happened around 2 p.m. at the intersection of New Mexico 550 and 528 in Sandoval County.

Police say the crash included seven cars and a motorcycle.

At this time, details of the crash are scarce, but KRQE News 13 did learn a car came into oncoming traffic causing a domino effect.

As of 6 p.m. Sunday, the the westbound lanes of New Mexico 550 were still closed from Santa Ana Casino to 528, and they were expected to be closed for several more hours.

Even though the investigation is still in its beginning stages, police say that a medical condition with the driver of the car may have been the cause of the crash.
