LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) – A bizarre death is now a homicide investigation.
Los Lunas police are trying to figure out what happened to a man before he was found dead in a pool of blood.
Police say the man’s body was found not far from where he lives.
Crime scene tape now block sections of a Los Lunas apartment complex where the man lived, and his neighbors could be key in solving this crime.
Police say someone called 911 around 6 a.m. Sunday.
The caller told police the older man was lying in a pool of blood in a parking lot of the Gerald Chavez apartments located at Gerald Chavez Lane and Taylor Road.
Police say the man died from several injuries, but would not elaborate.
When officers arrived, the man was already dead and police were left with very few clues as to what happened.
That’s when detectives started knocking on doors, hoping they’d find a witness.
“It’s a pretty tight-knit community here, and if there’s people out there that maybe saw something and they’re really hesitant to come forward, maybe they’re scared of some kind of retaliatory action or something like that, we have our anonymous tip line, that’s TEXT-A-TIP,” said Sgt. Frank Lucero.
Police are wondering how long the man had been lying in the parking lot, and they’re hoping someone can answer that question.
Investigators say they’re not ruling anything out, but right now they’re investigating this death as a homicide.
Police the say the victim had lived at the apartment complex for some time. At this time, they don’t know if this was a random crime or if the man knew the suspect.
