GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) – Crews are slowly gaining control of the massive fire in the Navajo Nation that’s already destroyed several homes.
The fire is 40 percent contained now.
It’s burned almost 15,000 acres.
Saturday firefighters plan to continue strengthening containment lines.
Crews will try to put out hot spots and cut down trees.
The fire has destroyed at least five homes.
Firefighters have found livestock near the fire and set up escorts to keep them safe and feed them.
A man burning weeds sparked the fire more than a week ago.
