OMI: Man died from self inflicted wounds, police guns

FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – Investigators have determined a man shot by police after a violent chase through Farmington died from his own hand and those of officers.

John Marszalek, 26, led deputies on a series of chases on March 12th after they tried to pull him over.

He rammed a police car and when he was cornered at an intersection, he started stabbing himself in the throat.

Shortly afterward, officers opened fire.

OMI has declared Marszalek’s death a homicide but say he died from a combination of the self-inflicted stab wounds and gunshots from police.
