Apple approves free SportXast app

SANTA FE (KRQE) – Man oh man, do I wish my parents had this technology when I was a kid. On Friday, SportXast, a Santa Fe based company, received news that their free app that allows spectators to capture and share 8-second highlights.

Forget shooting 45 minutes worth of footage just for that one goal, or touchdown; once highlights are captured, they can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube instantaneously.

The technology was first developed for the Los Alamos National Labs to identify things or people on video through, computer vision. Chief technology officer, Mark Ortega says CEO Molly Cernicek came up with a better use of the technology through sports.

“When you tap the button on the phone, it captures the 8 seconds leading up to when you tapped it. So, if you are a football fan think hey when they scored the touchdown and you have caught the play leading up to the touchdown…if you like soccer, you know wait for the ball to go in the goal, tap the button you got the goal.” said Ortega.

So parents, I encourage you to download the free app and start shooting away at your son or daughter’s sporting events.
