2 arrested after shooting at Sandoval County deputy

Richmond Sam and Angela Yazzie

SANDOVAL COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Two suspects wanted for shooting at a Sandoval County sheriff’s deputy, have been captured.

It happened at around 2:00 Friday morning when the deputy tried to pull over a driver suspected of DWI on San Luis Road near 550.

That’s when authorities say someone fired six to eight shots at the deputy.

One round hit his patrol car.

KRQE News 13 was told the driver then took the deputy on a chase but that ended when the suspect’s vehicle entered the Navajo Nation.

The FBI identified the two people inside that vehicle as 31-year-old Richmond Sam and 26-year old Angela Yazzie.

Navajo police detained the two late Friday afternoon.

The deputy was not hurt.
