PNM to build new natural gas plant

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico regulators have given PNM the go ahead to build a new natural gas power plant.

The $56 million facility will be located southwest of Belen next to existing transmission lines and two major gas pipelines.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and be complete in 2016.

The facility will provide a new property tax revenue for Valencia County.

PNM says adding the plant will also help the company provide other sources of electricity as it prepares to shut down part of the coal fired power plant in the four corners. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
