New Balloon Fiesta special shapes revealed

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – We’re still about four months out from balloon fiesta, but organizers are already gearing up.

They say this year even the regulars can expect to see something new.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta scheduled for Oct. 4th through the 12th will include 10 new special shape hot air balloons.

“Cool. Is that a whale?” asked Joanne Mullahey of Albuquerque.

A blue whale, an orca, a snail, a dinosaur and a roadrunner, organizers say these are a few of the 10 new balloons guests will see soar at Balloon Fiesta Park.

“Oh, that’s cute. Is that the frog?” asked Gloria Manios, visiting Albuquerque from South Carolina. “That is cute. I understand why the children like them.”

Since the children are often the special shapes experts, News 13 asked Emily Long, clad in her cat T-shirt and cat ears, which new balloon will steal the show.

“I like that kitty one,” she said.

No surprise there.

The Special Shape Rodeo in the mornings and the Glowdeo in the evenings are scheduled for Thursday and Friday the week of Balloon Fiesta.
