ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Police arrested an MDC guard Thursday after reports surfaced that he was having inappropriate relationships with female inmates.

According to APD, Andres Verdugo was allegedly acting inappropriately around female inmates and was reported to have had sexual intercourse with one of the inmates.

Officials say investigators spoke with several inmates about Verdugo’s behavior which lead to the reports of inappropriate behavior and one inmate reporting the sexual activity.

Inmates reportedly told investigators about instances where Verdugo made sexual comments and threatened them.

Verdugo, who has been with MDC since 2007, was placed on administrative leave on June 12th as a result of the allegations.

He was later charged with criminal sexual penetration and intimidation of a witness with a $50,000 bond.

He taken in to custody Thursday without incident.

Officials say Verdugo will remain on administrative leave with pay until the results of the investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
