Asayii Lake Fire only 5 percent contained

700 firefighters continue to battle Asaayi Fire

GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) – The Asayii Lake Fire near Gallup continues to burn more than 13,000 acres and is now 20 percent contained.

Officials say around 840 personnel made up of 24 crews are fighting the flames which had minimal movement overnight.

Fifty residences are still threatened and five structures have been destroyed.

The fire was reported Friday and was caused by a man burning weeds.
