PILAR, N.M. (KRQE) – A Santa Fe man drowned Monday after being swept away in the Rio Grande near Pilar.

The Taos County Sheriff’s Department says a woman called 911 around 3:30 p.m. Monday saying her boyfriend had disappeared under the water and didn’t come up.

That man, 43-year-old Jesse McNamara, was later found about a mile downstream. EMTs tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.

Officials say McNamara was swept away near the Rio Bravo campground. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
