Man gets swept away, drowns in Rio Grande

PILAR, N.M. (KRQE) – A Santa Fe man drowned Monday after being swept away in the Rio Grande near Pilar.

The Taos County Sheriff’s Department says a woman called 911 around 3:30 p.m. Monday saying her boyfriend had disappeared under the water and didn’t come up.

That man, 43-year-old Jesse McNamara, was later found about a mile downstream. EMTs tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.

Officials say McNamara was swept away near the Rio Bravo campground.
