Colorado man pleads guilty to stepfather’s murder

DURANGO, COLORADO (KRQE) – An Ignacio, Colorado man has pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the especially brutal death of his stepfather.

Richard Silva, 32, beat his stepdad, 55-year-old Clayborn Scott, in 2012 with a 35-pound propane tank in the house they shared.

According to the Durango Herald, Silva’s defense team had questioned his mental state and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

But Monday they worked out a deal with prosecutors.

Silva faces up to 28 years in prison when he’s sentenced in August.
