City pay raises could be cut in Portales

PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – Here’s some bad news for city workers in Portales: Some pay raises could get cut and there could be a hiring freeze soon because city revenues are down and Portales is short on cash.

Portales’s city manager, Doug Redmond, says workers who are set to get their raises before June 30 will still get them, but he’s making no promises after that.

City leaders are planning to meet with employee groups to discuss the cash flow problem. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
