CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Xcel Energy will open its new facility in eastern New Mexico next month.
The electricity provider will hold a ceremony July 8 to launch a 24,000-square-foot facility.
The property is located inside a Carlsbad industrial park and cost nearly $5 million to build.
The company will employ 37 people full-time and have additional contract workers.
Demand for electricity in the region is expected to grow significantly because of booms in the oil and mining industry.
Xcel has plans for 240 miles of new distribution lines that will carry electricity straight to customers in Lea and Eddy counties.
