Murder suspect out of jail again

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The suspect in the murder of a Moriarty woman is out of jail after being arrested again this week.

Mark Chavez, 50, was arrested early Thursday morning on an auto theft charge.

Chavez was initially charged with murder for the death of his girlfriend Tammie Cessna, whose body was found inside her van in January.

Investigators found a bloody scene inside one of the motel rooms where Chavez worked in Moriarty, but he was eventually released from jail and the charges were dropped.

Investigators say they’re waiting on more evidence and lab test results before charging him again for her death. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
