LINCOLN NATIONAL FOREST, N.M. (KRQE) – Firefighters are attempting to extinguish two new fires located just northwest of Ruidoso.

Officials say the Raven Fire and the South Fork fires started Saturday because of lightning.

The fire is 10 miles northwest of Ruidoso and smoke is visible from the Ruidoso area.

A helicopter is en route to help control the blaze that is estimated to one-tenth of an acre in size.

A third fire, the Bowl Fire, is burning northeast of Quemado Lake. A heavy air tanker has been called in to assist fire crews. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
