5th arrest made in beating death investigation

Ashley Zarate

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Another suspect has been arrested in the beating death of an Albuquerque man two and a half weeks ago bringing the total number of suspects in the case to five.

Richard Zarate, 65, was found severely beaten inside his home near 14th and Central May 27th.

He died the following week.

Two men are in custody accused of beating Zarate.

Another female suspect was arrested for using Zarate’s credit card.

Friday night detectives arrested the victim’s granddaughter, 19-year-old Ashley Zarate for providing the suspects with Zarate’s personal information.

The suspects told investigators the victim had sexually abused the granddaughter, and that was part of their motive.

A fifth suspect was arrested Thursday for harboring and aiding a felon.
