Police arrest another man connected to beating death

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police have arrested the third person connected to the beating death of an Albuquerque man.

Thursday night, APD’s repeat offender unit, in conjunction with the Rio Rancho Police Department, located and arrested 24-year-old Phillip Martin in a Rio Rancho apartment.

A murder warrant was issued for Martin after police said he was involved in beating 65-year-old Richard Zarate in his southwest Albuquerque home last month and then robbing him.

Zarate died last week from his injuries.

Marcus Hamilton, 20, was jailed in connection to the murder, as well as Samantha Ross, who was caught on surveillance video using Zarate’s credit card.

According to the criminal complaint, Hamilton knew Zarate and accused him of doing something bad to his friends. However, a motive is still unknown.

Police also arrested 30-year-old Maxine Casados, who was accused of hiding Martin, and charged her with harboring a fugitive.
