CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police has identified the two officers involved in the deadly police shooting of an escaped inmate in Carlsbad Monday.
Sgt. Edward Duarte and Officer David DeSantiago were both involved in the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Troy Kirkpatrick.
Police say Kirkpatrick was at a doctor’s appointment Monday morning when he assaulted a detention officer, escaped form the doctor’s office, stole a van and got away.
Carlsbad police chased after him.
Kirkpatrick eventually crashed into a person’s fence and that is when he was shot.
