Johnny Tapia movie to be shot in ABQ

Johnny Tapia

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque will be the backdrop for the new film Johnny based on the life of the legendary Boxer Johnny Tapia.

Filmmakers say it makes sense that the film is shot here because so much of Tapia’s life took place in the Duke City.

The production looks to hire right around 230 actors, extras and crew members.

The film office says they’ll use mostly New Mexicans.

Filming starts next month. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
