Home baked goods, a good business

Baked Bread

BERNALILLO, NM (KRQE) – There is some good news for home-based food businesses in Bernalillo.

The Bernalillo County Commission has passed an ordinance that will allow certain foods to be processed at home then sold.

The food items, such as baked goods, jams and dry mixes can be sold directly to consumers at growers markets or festivals but can’t be sold to restaurants or other retail outlets.

The ordinance will go into effect 30 days from its date of adoption. To obtain a home-based food processing permit, certain health and sanitation requirements must be met.

A $50 yearly business permit is required which includes training.
