ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Former Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres great Steve Garvey made a stop in the place where he once played minor league ball.
Garvey’s trip to Albuquerque included a stop at Isotopes Park.
The game against Round Rock is one of 55 Garvery is covering as part of a baseball tour that will take him to 18 states over four months. At Isotopes Park Garver caught the opening pitch and signed autographs.
He also shared memories of his days playing at the old Sports Stadium in Albuqueque as part of the Albuquerque Dodgers in 1969. The Stadium was brand new and a work of art that also had a spot where fans could park their cars over the top of the outfield. That worked out well for the home team but, not so much for the visitors.
“The only problem with the opposition was the cars in center field flicked their lights once and a while and it distracted them”, Garvey said. “We had to have a Marshal out in center field.”
