Police: Man stopped to buy drugs before hitting son

SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KRQE) – A southern New Mexico man who ran over his young son, killing him has now been arrested.

Police had thought 25-year-old Daniel Orozco, of Sunland Park, stopped to talk to a friend when his 3-year-old son unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the car.

But according to the Las Cruces Sun News, Orozco has admitted to stopping to buy heroin.

As Orozco left, he ran over the boy he died later at the hospital.

Orozco is facing a charge of child abuse resulting in death.
