Lightning sparks fire south of ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A wildfire caused by lightning is burning south of Albuquerque on the Sevilleta National Wildfire Refuge.

About 80 firefighters from Veguita, the BLM and State Forestry have been battling it.

The fire is burning south of N.M. Highways 60 and 47 in the Los Pinos Mountains.

Officials say the fire made a big run Wednesday, burning about 500 acres, but it is now burning up the mountains and crews are making progress.

Those at the refuge say the fire is not burning in any of their big wildfire areas and is not endangering any of their research sites.
