VA to open primary care clinics

VA New Mexico sign

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Veteran’s Affairs department is opening primary care clinics for New Mexico veterans still waiting for care.

The move comes in response to the VA healthcare scandal which has revealed secret waiting lists and veterans dying waiting for care.

Tuesday News 13 learned that 21 New Mexico vets on a waiting list died before they could get care.

Their deaths will be investigated to see if the wait was a factor.

One of the new clinics will be at the VA hospital in Albuquerque and the other in Rio Rancho at the VA’s Northwest Metro Community Based Outpatient Clinic on Grande near Sara road.

The two locations will open Saturday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
