SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico man police say ran over his 3-year-old son is now charged with the boy’s death.
It happened Wednesday morning in Sunland Park.
Investigators say 25-year-old Daniel Orozco first claimed he had stopped to talk to a friend when the toddler got out of his seatbelt.
He told officers he accidentally ran him over.
Unbeknownst to the father, the boy had unbuckled his own seat belt and gotten out of the car, when the father stopped to talk to a friend along the road.
He then hit the boy as he drove off.
The boy was airlifted to a hospital, but later died.
The investigation is ongoing.
