AFD receives breathing masks for pets

Animal rescue breathing masks

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Fire Department is getting some much needed donations pet oxygen masks.

On Tuesday, firefighters rescued a dog from a northeast house fire.

The two people in the home are expected to be OK and so is the dog.

The Invisible Fence brand donated the 22 masks.

Every fire station in Albuquerque will have a kit to resuscitate cats or dogs found in burning homes.

Firefighters say these masks will help make their jobs easier.

Before the donations, firefighters were forced to use human masks which don’t fit the animals.

The new kits fit tightly around the muzzle of the dog or cat to help the animal breathe.
