Judge increases ABQ murder suspect’s bond

Marcus Hamilton facing ABQ judge

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The man recently charged for murder after the victim in a burglary died found out Sunday he’ll need a lot of cash to get out of jail.

A judge increased 20-year-old Marcus Hamilton’s bond to $100,000 saying he’s a danger to the community.

Hamilton is accused of beating 65-year-old Richard Zarate in the victim’s southwest Albuquerque home last month.

Police say Hamilton was later spotted on surveillance video, with Samantha Ross using the victim’s credit card. She’s been arrested too.

Zarate died Thursday from the injuries he sustained.

His family told KRQE News 13 he didn’t deserve this.

According to the criminal complaint, Hamilton knew Zarate and accused him of doing something*bad to one of his friends.

Police would not say if they believe this was a form of retaliation.
