Severe weather, tornado watch slam NM

Corona tornado warning

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado did touch down for one minute in an area southwest of Corona.

NWS says the tornado touched down at 5:48 p.m. and was one to two miles west of Highway 54. NWS is also saying a wedge tornado was spotted on the ground just before 7:00 p.m. that was about 500 yards wide.

A Tornado Warning has been issued for central Chaves County until 8:00 p.m. The NWS is advising people in the area to take shelter.

A Tornado Watch is in place for parts of Eastern New Mexico until midnight.
