Friday will feature more heat as afternoon highs reach the upper 90s in Albuquerque and the triple digits in the south. However, the ridge of high pressure that’s been in control of our weather all week long is moving into Texas for the weekend. That will open the door for some moisture to move in from the north. Spot storms will be possible across the northeast again this afternoon with a few on the strong to severe side.
Storm chances further expand across the east over the weekend. By Sunday, the storm focus will be across the central mountain chain and points east. It’s not out of the question Albuquerque could see a spot storm, but the city will stay mostly dry.
The other big story for the weekend will be the cool down. Temperatures will drop to the low 90s in Albuquerque on Saturday and the upper 80s on Sunday. After seeing triple digit heat across the south this week, highs there will drop to the low 90s! Enjoy the break from the heat while it lasts, because the ridge of high pressure moves back in next week allowing the heat to crank back up.
