ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Metro court’s Chief Judge is retiring at the end of the month.

Before becoming the Chief Judge 18 months ago Julie Altwies served for seven years as a judge in the Metro Court Criminal Division.

She also worked for more than 17 years as a deputy district attorney handling high-profile prosecutions for murder, rape and other violent crimes.

Altwies also served as the presiding judge for the court’s DWI-drug court program.

She says she is looking forward to spending time with her family and traveling.
