Jal police chief loses in primary election

Jal Police Chief Larry Burns

JAL, N.M. (KRQE) – The small town police chief who was caught on video having sex in the back of an ambulance lost his race for magistrate judge.

Jal Police Chief Larry Burns lost to James Brown in the GOP primary for a magistrate judge seat in Lea County Tuesday.

Last month, KRQE News 13 On Special Assignment showed you edited video of burns having sex with an un-named woman inside and up against an ambulance.

Police Sergeant Joshua Terrell, who planted the camera, was fired.

City officials say he was trying to sabotage the chief’s campaign for magistrate and should have come to them with the video instead of making it public.

As for Burns, he was suspended without pay for two weeks.
