After seeing afternoon highs flirt with records Tuesday, expect more of the same Wednesday. Afternoon highs in Albuquerque will once again reach the upper 90s to near 100°, while the south soars well into the 100s. Combine the heat with the dry and breezy conditions, fire concerns will continue to be high through the rest of the week.
The ridge of high pressure bringing all of the hot weather will slowly slide into Texas over the next several days. As that happens, we will slowly start to take the edge off the heat. Unfortunately, it may take until the weekend for that to happen.
Moisture creeps back into the east by Thursday, Friday and the weekend. However, it doesn’t look like it will be enough to produce beneficial rainfall. Most storms that develop will be prone to producing dry lightning. That will add even more fuel to the fire concerns across the east.
