Santa Fe names new police chief


SANTA FE (KRQE) – Santa Fe has a new police chief.

After a national search the city has chosen Eric Garcia to lead the department.

He has 24 years of law enforcement experience, including 18 years with New Mexico State Police and as Director of Public Safety in Espanola.

Garcia replaces former Chief Ray Rael who retired in March.

Forty-eight candidates from around the country applied to be the top cop. Garcia was on a short list of finalists for the position.

His first day on the job will be June 16.

He’ll be paid $104,000 a year.
