ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Sales taxes could be on the way up.
Councilor Klarrisa Pena wants it to go up an eighth of a percent which is basically 12.5 cents per $100.
The money would be used to help people who are homeless and those with mental health and substance abuse issues.
Councilors are set to vote on the tax Monday night. It could raise about $16 million dollars a year.
Mayor R.J. Berry is against the tax. He told the Albuquerque Journal the plan for the tax money isn’t specific enough and people should vote on it first.
