Hobbs schools could get new security systems

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – Schools in Hobbs could soon be getting a new security system that won’t let just anyone into their buildings.

The system would require school visitors to present an ID card.

A special scanner would check the ID through the national sex offender database and a school visitor restricted list.

If someone’s name appears on one of those lists alerts would immediately be sent to local law enforcement.

School officials say the security upgrade is a preventative measure.

The district hopes to have the system installed by next school year.
