Applebee’s voyeurism victim: It gives me the chills

ROSWELL, N.M (KRQE) – The Applebee’s voyeurism victim is speaking out.

He claims a Roswell Applebee’s employee videotaped him using the bathroom.

Now, he’s upset the man accused of recording him hasn’t been arrested.

The victim talked to KRQE News 13 Friday about what happened during the incident and after.

“Even now just thinking about it, it gives me the chills,” the victim said.

Police have still not arrested the suspected voyeur even though they say he admitted to officers to recording in the restaurant stall.

The victim wants to know what’s taking so long.

“The officer was not there to actually witness what occurred and they want to make sure to do a thorough investigation,” said Roswell Police Liaison Sabrina Morales.

The victim claims he was inside the Applebee’s bathroom Monday night when he saw someone reach a phone up above his stall and push record.

“I kind of looked up once then kind of looked down then looked up again when I could see it said eight-seconds and I could see it was definitely video taping me,” said the 29-year-old victim.

He says he repeatedly tried to confront the man, but he refused to come out of the stall.

When he finally did, the victim says he was even more shocked.

“I figured I could tell the manager of the restaurant what happened and he could take care of it because that’s his place, but since it was him it blew my mind,” he said.

The victim tells KRQE once the manager exited the restroom he ran through the Applebee’s back door and got into his truck.

“Why couldn’t he as a manager confront me and start telling me his side if it really was honest what he was doing,” said the victim.

The manager told police he was recording damages of the stall, not the man.

The victim fears the man may have taken other videos.

“What if he was doing this to kids? How many people does he have on video?  Was I just the first one to confront him or caught him?” he said.

Now, the victim says he doesn’t feel comfortable eating out anywhere.

“It just makes you feel different,” the victim said. “I have just been so full of anxiety this last couple of days it’s ridiculous.”

Police say they’re still working on gathering evidence.

They say they could have an arrest warrant secured by sometime next week.

Applebee’s says it’s investigating the incident.

They would not say if the employee has been fired.
