ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A scary scene on Paseo del Norte east of Unser during the rush hour commute Friday afternoon.
Police say a man standing on a bridge over Paseo del Norte and fired off a shot at traffic below, hitting a woman behind the wheel in the face.
APD says it happened around 4:15 p.m.
A woman was driving her Honda SUV westbound on Paseo when a man shot a gun at her car sending a bullet through the windshield and into her face.
Witnesses told police it was a man standing on a pedestrian bridge who pulled the trigger.
What police don’t know is why.
“Whether it was intentional or unintentional is unknown at this point I think it’s important for us to follow up on every lead that we get,” said APD Sergeant Shawn Casaus.
APD conducted an air search and brought in open space units but that shooter is still at large and APD doesn’t have any description of what he may look like to release.
The woman, meanwhile, was taken to the hospital and she’s expected to survive her injuries. The woman remained hospitalized Saturday.
Police are waiting until the woman is in better shape to conduct a more thorough interview with her.
