Shooting victim’s mother has message for robber

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It all happened within seconds.

Ramzi Hijazi, a gas station employee and father of three, was shot by a man demanding cash.

The robbery occurred just before noon on Thursday at the Fill Up gas station on 12th and Candelaria.

This was the third robbery at the location in six months.

In the family-owned business, they say it’s not the money they’re worried about.

“Money comes and goes,” said Samie Hijazi, the shooting victim’s brother. “The important thing is my brother is OK, he has his health and three kids.”

Surveillance video shows the shooter approaching the clerk at the cash register, pulling a gun, and demanding cash.

“I couldn’t figure out why he shot him, but when I looked at the camera from this angle, I could see that when he pulled out a gun my brother took a step back and shot him,” he said.

The victim’s mother says she always feared something like this would happen.

She said she forgives the shooter and has a message for him.

“Whatever it is that made you do this, I hope you get over it and become a better person,” she said.

The clerk was released from the hospital Thursday evening and is recovering at home.

APD says the male shooter is Hispanic with tattoos on his face.
