Man accused of murder, arson faces judge

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Prosecutors are now trying to set a trial date for a man accused of murdering his girlfriend then burning her body in a car.

Shaun Ryals was in court Thursday morning, expected to change his plea, but that didn’t happen.

Ryals is accused of stabbing his girlfriend 26 times during an argument last year.

Police say he then put her body in the trunk of a car she had stolen and set the car on fire behind the Walmart near Coors and I-40.

Ryals is charged with murder and arson. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
