ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – After making it to the NCAA baseball tournament four years in a row, the Lobo baseball team will be watching fellow conference foes UNLV and SDSU in regional play of the tournament beginning Friday afternoon.
“There are people that I do know on the committee, and they are in a tough situation because they are going to make somebody mad. The NCAA doesn’t hear the Mountain West. Who do they hear? It’s obvious, the ACC, SEC, PAC12, BIG 12, they hear those leagues.” said Lobos Head Coach Ray Birmingham.
Despite winning 37 games on the season, and winning at least a share of the MW regular season championship the Lobos were the odd men out as the MW sent just 2 teams to post season play.
“It’s become a program with a lot of expectations, so that’s where we are at. Was it a good year? Heck yeah, a lot of teams would have liked to have a year we had. Is it disappointing at the end? Absolutely,” said Birmingham.
Thirty-seven wins ties a school record for the fourth most wins in school history in a season.
