ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A Roswell man says something creepy happened to him at a popular chain restaurant.
He says he found an employee video-taping him in a bathroom stall.
Now, that worker is wanted by police.
“A male was in the restroom at Applebee’s and he noticed a phone up above the stall and it was recording him,” said Roswell Police Liaison Sabrina Morales.
In a report filed at the Roswell Police Department, a 29-year-old man claims an Applebee’s employee filmed him using the restroom Monday night.
According to the report, the victim was in the restaurant’s bathroom when he saw someone reach a phone up above his stall and push record.
He says he tried to confront the man who was taping him, but the guy wouldn’t come out of the stall.
“The victim did find a waitress to find out who had finally come out of the restroom and she did confirm it was an employee,” said Morales.
Detectives say that employee was an Applebee’s manager.
During a police interview, the worker admitted to recording inside the bathroom stall, but told them he didn’t record the man.
He claims someone reported a child had vandalized the restroom and he was filming to get documentation of it.
People in Roswell are disturbed.
“It’s sickening more than anything else,” said Gilberto Ezpinoza.
Brittney Babcock says she agrees.
“I don’t understand why people would do that,” Babcock said.
Others say they’re worried for their safety and their children.
“That’s really scary because it could have been one of my kids going to there restroom and I have nothing but boys and one girl,” said Star Clark.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the manager.
Police say the case has been sent to the District Attorney’s office.
An Applebee’s spokesperson says the Roswell franchise is cooperating with police and are doing an internal review.
The spokesperson would not say if the employee involved had been fired.
