Dia de Johnny Tapia will honor late boxer

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It’s a fight card honoring the memory of the late world champion boxer Johnny Tapia two years after his death.

Dia de Johnny Tapia will have a total of five fights on the professional part of it’s card Friday. Joshua Torres is headlining the card at the Hotel Cascada in Albuquerque. To try something different Tapia’s wife and boxing promoter Teresa took a page out of the book of her late husband’s career. She is holding the card outdoors.

“He loved it, said Teresa. “He loved the whole change of scenery because you know everybody has done all of these different venues and he wanted to be an outdoor person. I thought it would be a great way to honor him, something different.”

The first of five professional fights will start at 7 on Friday. Amateur boxing kicks off the event with a 1 p.m. start time. Tickets are available at holdmyticket.com.
