ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – An animal at the Roswell Spring River Zoo was affected by the severe flooding this weekend.
Zoo keepers say Harriet, an older deer at the park, twisted her right shoulder during the storm.
Officials believe the thunder and lightning startled the 13-year-old, causing her to slip and fall.
“The thunder was nonstop the rain was horrendous and when that happens it scares the animals sometimes and that’s what happened in this case,” Marge Woods, zookeeper, said.
Zookeepers say Harriet has a strained right shoulder muscle.
They say it could take a week or two for her to fully recover.
Harriet was the only zoo animal injured during the storm.
