DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Soon some New Mexican’s will not need to dial 911 to get help, they’ll be able to text it in an emergency.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports Dona Ana County expects to have equipment on line this fall to receive 911 text calls for help.
The FCC requires all wireless providers to offer it by the end of the year. But, so far only a handful of states or local governments have the equipment to receive text messages.
Dona Ana County appears to be one of the first in New Mexico.
